Unique Strategy: 5 Powerful Steps to Persuade Apple to Foot the Bill for Your Mac Repair

25 years as a Mac repair expert has shown me that Apple has a history of releasing MacBook Pros. Selling iMacs and promoting Mac Pros and long list of other Mac machines. They just weren’t “quite” ready to be placed in everyone’s home or work.

There would ALWAYS be “something” that sort of  worked.

1TB internal SATA drives that kept failing in the 2016-2017 iMacs the Apple community is ALWAYS trying to get Apple to admit that they made a mistake and took the public’s money.

As I took various machines to the Apple Genius bar for clients and my own 2011 and 2015 Apple MacBook Pros for identical reasons that I found online thanks to the following Ninja techniques I got MANY either free repairs or radically reduced repairs ranging from replaced logic boards to replaced screens for MacBook Pros that were YEARS out of warranty and it didn’t take a ton of time to pull off

Step 1: Search the Web

Get the EXACT model name and year of the Apple product that you are having hardware issues on. Here is an example of a search term I used for my 15″ Mid-2011 Apple MacBook Pro that produced my black screen of death (BSOD)
“MacBook Pro” “2011” “black screen” after that result came back depicting the reason for this was graphic card failures I modified my search to:

“MacBook Pro” “2011” “graphic card failure”

Once I had a solid paper trail of MANY others with the same issue it makes it seem like it will become an Apple Recall issue. I print out the site that seems most obvious.

Step 2: Go to Apple Store

Take the incriminating evidence and go to the Apple store.

Show up at the store on a weekday right when it opens or an hour before or after the lunch hour. Usually even on the most congested Genius bar online appointment days there’s literally NO WAIT to see an Apple genius.

Step 3: Wait for Apple Genius Diagnostic

Patiently wait for the Apple genius to make their brilliant discovery of the problem that you already know has taken down your Apple machine. Take out your evidence and share it with the Apple genius and get on their side saying, “I bet you see a lot of these” If they agree that they have, but have to charge you $950+ to get it repaired ask politely to speak to the manager.

Step 4: Consult with Apple Mac Repair Genius

Here is where it pays to be personable.

Step 5: Ask for the Apple store Mac Repair Manager

Bring out your evidence and talk about it with the Apple genius corroborating each detail and ask politely for the repair to be paid for since it will probably become an Apple Recall issue soon. At this point it is solely up to manager to say yes or no and I’ve found that even if everything seems to be going my way the manager can always refuse.

What I’ve found is that it’s ALWAYS worth a shot to get Apple to pay for their own mistakes
